We have lovely neighbors who struggled for years and through miscarriages and infertility and finally were blessed with their wonderful son, born this past June. Before the baby came they were friendly, but sometimes a bit standoffish, which I completely understand, but since their son came, they have become effusive in their friendliness, and magnanimous, and we are so blessed to have them as neighbors. They never fail to stop and say hello to the kids and talk to them about whatever is important to them at the moment, and are infinitely patient and tolerant when Little Man shows up when they are doing yard work and asks 50,000 questions. They showed up after Nemo was born with dinner for us one night, and several days later they presented us with a baby gift for him, too.
Yesterday they gave Christmas gifts to all four kids, and all were clearly thought out, as they were perfect for the child who received them. For Trout, the artist, a decoupage kit; for Little Man, a pair of very nice binoculars; for Sunny, a set of playdoh that came with a Tigger stamper; and an alphabet puzzle for Nemo to grow into. Each kid is ecstatic over his/her gift, and are excited to draw pictures and write thank-you notes (and how often does that happen with kids this age?).
Sunny has been playing with her playdoh non-stop except to eat and sleep. Little Man was allowed to play with it some today, and they took it out when I wasn't looking, apparently, because I found the empty cans sitting on the play table during clean up time this afternoon. I rounded up the playdoh, which was now all mixed together, and noticed it was decidedly .... light. So some was missing, but we couldn't find it. I just hoped it wasn't in the laundry.
Little Man didn't seem to have much appetite at dinner tonight, and usually he digs in readily in hopes of getting dessert. I wondered if he was feeling sick, and as I reached over to feel his head I noticed he had something in his mouth.
It seems he had been hiding bits of playdoh and eating them all afternoon. I hope he doesn't invite me in to see that come out the other side.
ROFLMAO.
