I should have written up what I was going to say yesterday, but I just didn't feel like it, so now...it's gone, wasting away in the ether of my brain until one night it will wake me up at 3am to tell me. Then I'll forget again.
Anyway, a few things notable about the past week or so:
- When your husband asks if your shredder can accomodate CD's and you say no, don't let him put a disk through the shredder anyway. When he succeeds despite your protests, stay out of his way for the next hour as he takes apart the shredder to remove the jammed pieces of the cd from the shredder. It would probably be a good idea to refrain from saying "I told you it didn't take cd's" while staying out of the way. Ahem.
- A couple of nights ago, Little Man was working on his homework, where he had to write 2 sentences using the sight word of the week me. He was complaining, loudly, with much whining, that he didn't know what to write. The following conversation continued for the next ten minutes:
Him: "Moooom, I don't know what to write! You have to help me! What should I write?"
Me: "Look at me."
Him: "MOM! I DID! What do I wriiiiite?"
Me: "Look at me."
Him: "MOOOOMMMMM!!!! STOP SAYING THAT!! What do I write?????!!!?"
Me: "Look. At. Me."
etc. Eventually I took pity on him and said "You should write 'Look at me', bud." His answer? "Oh."
- Nemo has started walking in earnest, choosing it as his primary mode of transportation rather than crawling. The thing is, he staggers like a drunk, listing this way and that, bouncing off furniture, toys, his sisters, whatever happens to be in his way. I remember my MIL once telling me that BigDaddyFish started walking at 9 months and they really didn't want him to, because he was really bad at it. I've always doubted he walked that early, as we have plenty of other examples of my MIL's faulty memory, especially of the early years, and NONE of our kids have walked anywhere close to that early. I still think it was probably closer to 12 months, but damn if I don't now know exactly what she was talking about in regards to the execution of the walking. It's really a funny thing to watch, except that he gets hurt about every fifth step or so, and then he tries to climb me like a tree using his little monkey claws, which, despite regular nipping, are like talons.
- Nemo has also decided he is scared of all sorts of formerly innocuous things, like the damned vacuum cleaners. We had our air ducts cleaned on Monday. The guy did a great job - BDF keeps saying he thinks the house smells cleaner - but, well, do you remember when the pygmy marmoset climbed up on Johnny Carson's head (marmoset is about 3 minutes in)? That's what that experience was like for me.
- Along those lines, one of the not-so-good things about living in the DC burbs where I am in particular is that we are directly under the flight path of the Sikorsky helicopters whenever anyone gets flown to Camp David (for whatever reason, we also get these flying over periodically, three or four at a time, in formation - I've always assumed it has something to do with Camp David, too). So, given Nemo's current state of alarm at the slightest loud noise, you can imagine what fun it is when those suckers fly over, like they did this morning. Thought I'd never get that child off the ceiling.
- Nemo was supposed to go back to the doctor this week to do an ear check and give him his shots that he missed at his one-year checkup, but I've been trying to wait until we have our insurance cards because I've already shelled out more than $500 this month on doctor visits that will be "reimbursed" after I submit the claims, once I get our insurance information. Now he's tugging on the ear again, so we'll have to go back, anyway, and I'll have to pay out of pocket, again.
- Please go here, and check out my review of a cool new book.
- Go here, and offer whatever comfort you can to my friend, please.
So what's up with you?
It was an excellent review!!!
BTW we did the same thing with our shredder & a couple cd's. Not good.

You described my son's walking exactly - except he's been doing it for three months. You'd expect he'd be better at it by now. Part of the problem is that he insists upon running - or rather his version of running - everywhere. He's good at running, not so good at steering and stopping. Hence the visit to the ER on Thanksgiving.
