We have a lovely friend, the woman who was my original daycare provider when I went back to work when Trout was three months old. She doesn't work for us full time anymore, but usually watches Nemo for me once a week, and is my primary babysitter for doctor's appointments and other too-early-in-the-day-for-my-vampire-musician-manny activities. She's wonderful and we love her like she's one of our family. Please note that everyone involved in the following story is okay. Now, here's what happened:
Tuesday morning, her husband, I'll call him Jimmy Smith, called me.
"Hi FishyGirl, this is Jimmy Smith, and today I'm acting as Sandy's social secretary," he said cheerfully.
"Hello Jimmy, how are you?"
"Oh, I'm well. I suppose you heard about the accident on 270 yesterday?"
"No, I didn't. Uh oh."
"Yeeeah, well, Sandy was involved, and..."
"Oh no."
"Yeeeah, she was in my white car? Which is now the size of a Mini Cooper." The white car was an Oldsmobile Alero, four door, decidedly bigger than a Mini.
"Is she...."
"She's okay, she broke her collarbone. I got the call at work, the boys were here alone. She took a little trip to shock trauma, I guess that's what happens when there's a cement mixer involved."
"What?!" He hadn't mentioned his daughter and my heart was in my throat at this point.
"Yeah, it overturned. She's home now, she's up there resting. Annie was in the car with her..."
"Oh my God!" Annie is Sandy's 12 year old daughter.
"Yeah, but she's okay, only some bumps and bruises and scrapes. Normal stuff. Sandy got the brunt of it, she's feeling better though, a little dizzy when she gets up, I guess that goes along with having a concussion...."
"Wait, what?!"
"Yeah, so, I know she was supposed to be watching Nemo today, but unfortunately she won't be able to do that for a little while."
I should think so. The whole conversation was just so weird, just when I thought I had all the information I needed he'd slip something else into the conversation, drop another little tidbit that helps paint the picture, and he was completely cheerful throughout, not what I would imagine when the female members of my family had just been in a horrific crash from which they were luck to escape alive. Had it been me, the first things out of my mouth would have been "Everyone's okay! Now, let me tell you what happened." Guess he had a different idea.
Since a picture is worth 1000 words, Sandy's car is the white one in this story:

The accident is still under investigation. Sandy has no memory of the accident itself so she doesn't know what happened. She isn't sleeping very well and is in a lot of pain, and has a long recovery ahead of her. We would all appreciate your prayers and good thoughts.
And if you ever have to deliver this kind of information, please consider using my approach.
So glad 'Sandy' and her daughter are ok! What a scare! I wish your blog post said up front that everyone was ok. I went through the same thing you did :-/

Yikes! Glad everyone is ok.
My mother needs a better delivery method for her tales, as well. One day she texted me a picture of a fire truck sitting in her front yard (the neighbor's shed caught fire). Totally makes your heart stop, eh?
